Competition for the City Cup in figure skating began in Astana - Astana Figure Skating Cup 2018

The open figure skating cup is held for the first time in the history of Astana. 225 young sportsmen from 16 regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan take part in the competition. The tournament was organized by the Department of Culture and Sport of Astana, the”Alau”  Ice Palace and KSU "Directorate for sports events."

During the opening ceremony, the President of the National Federation of Speed Skaters of Kazakhstan Bolat Zhamishev spoke, who welcomed all the participants and guests of the event, wishing good luck to young figure skaters.

"I think everyone will be pleased with the competition and its results. Next to our young skaters are always parents, so I think that figure skating is a classic team sport," he said. In turn, Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Sport of Astana, Berik Marzhikpayev, also thanked the parents of young figure skaters. "I would like to say special words of gratitude to mothers, parents who brought their children. In fact, this one of the most beautiful and worthy sports. Thank you very much for bringing this children to this beautiful sport. To everyone Good luck, "said Berik Marzhikpayev. Competitions will be held in the “Alau” Ice Palace for two days. They include single skating among representatives of clubs and sports schools that cultivate figure skating, in accordance with the unified Republican classification and ISU rules for the season 2018-2019. Groups of figure skaters are formed from 3 junior ranks born in 2004-2008. Also participants of the category “young figure skater” of 2009-2010 year of birth will compete for the title of the best athlete.

Award winners of the competition will be held tomorrow - the winners will receive medals, diplomas and memorable prizes. The organizers stressed that the Astana Figure Skating Cup 2018 aims to promote physical culture, sports and healthy lifestyles, increase the level of sportsmanship of figure skaters and the exchange of experience between coaches of sportsmen. It is also reported that in the future competitions for the possession of this cup will be held in the international arena.
